Stay Alert to AI-Generated Fake News

BDCB warns the public to verify AI-generated videos and investment claims, avoid unlicensed entities and protect personal and financial information.
Brunei Darussalam Central Bank has reminded the public to remain cautious of videos generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence. Such content may appear realistic while containing false or misleading information.
The warning followed the circulation of a fraudulent video that misused BDCB’s name and impersonated a senior government official to promote an investment scheme. BDCB clarified that it had not assessed, approved or endorsed the scheme or product featured in the video.
The public should verify whether information has been published through BDCB’s official website or social media channels. Be cautious of content that uses the identities, images or voices of government officials or public figures, particularly when accompanied by promises of high or guaranteed returns.
Do not provide personal information, banking details, passwords, one-time passwords or security codes through suspicious messages, websites or applications. Suspicious financial activities may be reported to BDCB at 2380007 or 8380007, or by email at fci@bdcb.gov.bn.
